The Importance of Drainage When Detoxing
When detoxing from heavy metals and chemicals, ensuring proper drainage is crucial for optimal results. Our bodies are constantly exposed to toxins, whether through environmental pollutants, processed foods, or everyday products. Over time, these toxins can accumulate in our tissues, leading to various health issues. By supporting our body’s natural detoxification pathways and promoting adequate drainage, we can help eliminate these harmful substances and restore balance to our overall well-being.
Let’s explore the significance of drainage in detoxification and discuss physical things, foods, and supplements that can aid in this essential aspect of holistic health.
Six Physical Activities that Aid in Drainage
Engaging in specific physical activities and incorporating certain practices into daily routines can greatly support our body’s drainage capabilities. Here are some physical things that can aid in drainage:
- Exercise: Regular physical activity is vital for overall health and promotes lymphatic drainage. The lymphatic system, responsible for removing waste and toxins from the body, relies on movement and muscle contractions to function effectively. Engaging in aerobic exercises, such as brisk walking, jogging, or cycling, can help stimulate lymphatic flow and enhance drainage.
- Dry Brushing and Lymphatic Massage: Dry brushing is a simple yet effective technique that can aid in lymphatic drainage. Using a dry brush with natural bristles, gently brush your skin toward the heart. This practice helps exfoliate dead skin cells, improve circulation, and stimulate the lymphatic system, facilitating the elimination of toxins. If you don’t have a brush, you can use your hands. - Sauna Therapy: Sweating is another natural way our bodies eliminate toxins. Sauna therapy, whether through traditional saunas or infrared saunas, can promote sweating and enhance the detoxification process. The heat from the sauna helps open up pores, releasing toxins through the skin, and can also support the excretion of heavy metals through sweat. Don’t have access to a sauna? Take a hot bath instead!
- Coffee Enemas: The idea behind coffee enemas is that the caffeine in the coffee helps stimulate the liver and gallbladder to release toxins from the body. When you use a coffee enema, caffeine is absorbed into the bloodstream through the walls of the colon. This allows caffeine and other beneficial compounds to have a more direct and potent effect on the liver and gallbladder.
- Red Light Therapy: Activate mitochondria with red light energy. Mitochondria are the powerhouses of cells, responsible for making cell energy, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and enhancing oxygen consumption. When cells function efficiently, the body’s natural detox process is more effective. Call the office to book a red light session!
- IonCleanse Foot Detox: The IonCleanse foot detox system generates an electric current with both negatively and positively charged ions that act like magnets to attract negatively and positively charged toxic ions. Once the toxic ions are attracted to the electrical current, they can move out of the body.
Detoxing Foods that Aid in Drainage
In addition to physical practices, incorporating certain foods into our diet can aid drainage and support detoxification. Here are some foods that can help promote drainage:
- Leafy Greens: Leafy green vegetables, such as spinach, kale, and Swiss chard, are rich in chlorophyll, which can support the body’s natural detoxification pathways. Chlorophyll helps neutralize and eliminate toxins, including heavy metals, by binding to them and aiding in their elimination from the body.
- Cruciferous Vegetables: Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and other cruciferous vegetables contain compounds that support liver function, a vital organ in the detoxification process. These vegetables contain glucosinolates, which are converted into compounds that help the liver detoxify harmful substances and promote drainage.
- Citrus Fruits: Citrus fruits, such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits, are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, aiding detoxification. Vitamin C supports the production of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that plays a crucial role in the liver’s detoxification processes. Additionally, the citric acid in citrus fruits can help enhance the body’s natural cleansing abilities.
Supplements that Aid in Drainage
While a healthy diet is essential for drainage and detoxification, certain supplements can provide additional support. Here are some supplements that can aid in drainage:
- Milk Thistle: Milk thistle is an herbal supplement known for its liver-protective properties. It contains an active compound called silymarin, which helps promote liver cell regeneration and supports the organ’s detoxification processes. By enhancing liver function, milk thistle can aid in eliminating toxins and support overall drainage.
- N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC): NAC is an amino acid that supports glutathione production, a powerful antioxidant in detoxification. By increasing glutathione levels, NAC can help enhance liver function, promote the elimination of toxins, and support drainage.
- Bentonite Clay: Bentonite clay is a natural clay that has been used for centuries for its detoxifying properties. When ingested, bentonite clay binds to toxins in the digestive tract, preventing their absorption and aiding in their elimination. It can help remove heavy metals and other harmful substances, promoting adequate drainage.
- Whole-food supplements: McElwee Natural Health and Healing Center offers a variety of whole-food supplements to assist in drainage. Drainage Tone, ACX, Garlic, ACP, and Spanish Black Radish are just a few. We can see which drainage supplements your body responds to through muscle response testing.
Ensuring proper drainage is crucial when detoxing from heavy metals and chemicals. We can support our body’s natural detoxification pathways by incorporating physical practices such as exercise, dry brushing, and sauna therapy, along with foods like leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, and citrus fruits. Supplements such as milk thistle, N-acetyl cysteine, and bentonite clay can further aid drainage. By prioritizing drainage in our holistic health practices, we can help eliminate toxins, restore balance, and promote overall well-being. Contact us today!

I greatly enjoyed reading your information. I have been using this process for many years, and am beginning to use it again after having discontinued it following surgery for a hiatal hernia 2 years ago. My question is, is it necessary to use a rinsing Enema consisting of clear, warmed, filtered water, several hours, or next morning after having had a coffee enema. I have been using this enema(s) several hours after having coffee enemas since I read that it flushes out toxins that are released inside your body from the coffee enema. This is supposed to prevent these toxins from being Re absorbed inside the colon. Is this follow up enema, or series of 2 or 3 enemas really necessary? Without the follow-up flush, what would happen to the toxins released by the coffee enema? I have been unable to find an answer to this on the web. Thank you! Charles
Hello Charles! Thank you for your comment. Our team does not typically do a rinsing enema after the coffee enema unless the coffee enema isn’t successful (meaning there was not much evacuation). However, a rinsing enema does make sense for the reasons you mentioned. We suggest visiting gerson.org for more information. Dr. Gerson works with people with cancer who use coffee enemas multiple times a day and is our go to on the topic. Hope that helps. Thank you!
